SCLEROTHERAPY is injection of a solution into a vein to cause it to disappear. TVFC treats spider veins using concentrated saline, sotradecol, or polidocanol with very small needles, done in our office. Most patients find the discomfort of treatment to be minimal. Although complications can arise from treatment, sclerotherapy has a history of being the safest solution to unsightly veins for many, many people.
VNUS CLOSURE utilizes a small filament to close the affected vein from the inside. A local anesthetic is used, a small incision near the knee, and then under the guidance of ultrasound, a radio-frequency sheath is threaded up the vein to a predetermined location. More anesthesia is used, mixed with fluid that both keeps the tissues of the leg cool, and compresses the vein, as the filament is fired and slowly extracted. Over the next few hours this fluid is absorbed by the body, and a compression stocking is applied in its place. Afterwards, patients often see bruising and experience a slight soreness in the treated area. This is due to the contraction of the treated vein - actually a sign that the treatment has been successful. VNUS Closure offers immediate results. Healing takes a few days, during which patients usually return to their normal activities, taking care not to overexert, take hot baths or do high-impact exercising. Walking during this healing period is encouraged, for a minimum of twenty minutes per day.
AMBULATORY PHLEBECTOMY The removal of segments of a vein has been found to be sufficient to close that vein down to further blood flow. Instead of the old-fashioned "stripping", segmental or ambulatory phlebectomy is much kinder to the body. It has less scarring, less pain involved, less recovery time.
FOAM SCLEROTHERAPY Varicose veins don't always qualify for venous closure, as far as insurance is concerned. Foam is an option for some varicose veins in this case. It uses a "foamed" sclerosant to displace the blood in the vein, and causes it to collapse. Followed by compression with hosiery, the vein seals shut. This is a useful treatment when VNUS is not an option.
