Lipodissolve/Lipotherapy

Before After
Lipotherapy consists of the injection of phosphatidylcholine and sodium deoxycholate.  This combination of two enxymes, when injected into fat pockets, causes destruction of the fat cell membrane.  The average time the body take to metabolize and remove the damaged cells from the body is two weeks, during which time the patient will experience pronounced swelling, tenderness, possibly redness, and itching.  Bruising and knots under the skin may occur as well, both of which are temporary and require no specific treatment.

The swelling and tenderness the patient can expect as a result of Lipotherapy injection is different in each patient, but can easily be described as severe.  The first three days are the most dramatic, dropping off considerably after that.  The entire two weeks after injection, though, can continue to have these side effects present, steadily ebbing until gone.

We encourage patients to use Tylenol for the tenderness, and ice if desired.  Ibuprofen has a slight anti-inflammatory effect and so its use is discouraged.

We make a two week recheck appointment to see the patient’s progress, and this is the earliest that another injection treatment can be given.  The larger the fat pad, the more treatments are necessary in order to notice a result.  For this reason, we encourage patients who are overweight to try diet and exercise during their treatment, so that:
  1. They will require less treatments (saving them money)
  2. Their results will be more readily seen
We have seen beautiful results following Lipotherapy.  We must stress that this is not a weight loss substitute, but rather a way to re-shape problem areas of the body.  It truly can be considered a viable alternative to lipo-suction.
